Jack Petchey was born in 1925 in the East End of London and after leaving the navy he has become a very successful business man. Having supported many charities in his lifetime, he decided to set up this foundation to support projects in East London. In recent years this has been extended to other London boroughs.
The awards are a way of enabling schools to recognise the achievements of young people within the school who have been nominated by their peers or by staff each month.
The winner then receives a framed certificate and a cheque (payable to the school) to be spent on a school project of the winners choice.
